Traditions

As we've discussed, I love the holidays. I think the biggest reason I love them so much is because my family has so many traditions to look forward to. From small traditions like holiday shopping and Christmas movies to more important ones like my family's Christmas itinerary. Every Christmas is the same in my house and I love that. You would think it gets boring, but it doesn't. When you have such a special day that only comes once a year, you treasure it.

Christmas morning my mom is the first to wake up. She makes coffee, then blasts Christmas music to wake us all up (such a peaceful way to get up). We open our stockings, then to my aunt's house for a tasty Christmas brunch. After brunch, we go back home to open all of our presents. After presents, we watch some sort of Christmas movie (this varies between It's a Wonderful Life, Elf and Miracle of 34th Street). While the movie is playing, my parents and I prepare our annual Christmas feast, when our entire family rejoins together to eat. After dinner, we play games and and one of my oldest childhood friends comes over. With full bellies and happy hearts, we go to bed.

This routine is the same, every year. It never changes and I am okay with that. It's these traditions that make our Christmas so special.

So I'm curious, does your family have Christmas traditions? What do you do? Is it the same every year? I'm super interested in hearing.

P.S. I know how blessed I am to have a family to celebrate with and a job to support our traditions. I know not everyone is as fortunate. I feel thankful every day.

  1. Who is your oldest childhood friend? My mom's side has a tradition where the oldest person opens all of their gifts while the rest of us stare at them, and then the next oldest goes and so on. Worst. Tradition. Ever. At least one of us likes traditions.
