City on Fire

I have been living in Colorado Springs for less than a month and my city is burning.

Yesterday, at approximately 1pm, a fire started in a small Colorado Springs suburb called Black Forest. I first saw the smoke while driving at 2pm. At 3pm I went to a meeting and by the time it ended at 4pm, the smoke plume was over 50 miles long and homes had burned. By the end of last night, the smoke plume had grown to over 100 miles, and this morning I woke up to news that over 8,000 acres had burned and 70 to 80 homes were destroyed. Today, I can no longer see the mountains and the air wreaks both outside and inside of smoke. This fire is still zero percent contained.

WTF. What is our world coming to these days? Tornadoes, hurricanes and fires, oh my.

P.S. Ways to help here. I'm texting cash to Care and Share.

Changes

For over the past two years of my life, the place I have called home has been your vacation. A town where the beer flows like wine and where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I'm talking about a little place called...Breckenridge, Colorado. Duh.

I moved to Breckenridge in winter of 2011 and loved (almost) every minute of it. Breckenridge is where I truly learned to love and appreciate the outdoors. It's where I got to ski almost every day. It's where I was able go hiking and trail running by just crossing the street at my house. It's where I got to play for a few years and not worry about the seriousness of life. It's where I started this blog. It was my mountains (and mode).

As most of you know, I recently left the mountains and moved back to the city. To be honest, it's been a bittersweet transition. Although I absolutely love my new job and love being closer to my family, I also left a lot of what I love behind, including the theme to this blog. I no longer live in [the thick of] the mountains. I now live in a metropolitan city with close to a million people. I know this change was right for me, but what does this change mean for my blog. Will it still be all mountains and mode? Will you still want to read it? It's been two weeks since my last post and I miss it here. I miss my creative outlet. I miss my friends and their witty comments (shout out Mandi/Danimal/Tommy).

So I'm back and I'm here to stay. I know things are different and changes be happenin,' but it's still me and this is still my blog. There will still be mountains and obvi mode, it just may not be as often. You may have to endure a few boring posts in between about the mundane things going on in my life, like car shopping and budgeting (both posts coming soon- excited, right?). So bear with me. Mountains and Mode is back and it's hopefully still going to entertain you (or at least me).

Thanks for listening. Thanks for reading. Thanks for being my friend. I love you all.
